Harry Hammond

Harry Hammond (born c1932-2002) was an evangelical preacher in the United Kingdom. In October 2001 he held up banners in Bournemouth proclaiming "Stop Immorality, Stop Homosexuality, Stop Lesbianism", and referencing his Christian faith. A sufferer of Asperger's Syndrome, he was assaulted by a number of people who disagreed with his protest.
Hammond was himself arrested and fined £300 for public order offences in April 2002.
Shortly after his trial he died. In January 2004, a posthumous appeal on the basis of a right to freedom of expression under the Human Rights Act failed.[1]
Harry Hammond was supported by Peter Tatchell of Outrage, a prominent gay activist, who defended his protest and repudiated his conviction.
