Harrow International School, Bangkok

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harrow International School was established and gained its license to operate in Thailand in 1998 in association with Harrow School (London, UK). The school moved to a new, 75-acre campus in September 2003 in northern Bangkok (Don Muang). This is a green, secure location, away from the traffic and pollution of the inner city, where a typical British day and boarding school education is provided for an international group of 1,160 boys and girls, aged 6 months to 18 years of age.

Harrow International School is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia (FOBISSEA) and International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT). The school gained CIS accreditation in June 2006.

In September 2003, Harrow also opened an Early Years Centre in the Ekamai Soi 4, Sukhumvit 63 Road. This caters for children aged 2 and a half years to 6 years old.

For students whose home is a considerable distance from school, or whose parents live overseas, Harrow International is able to offer boarding school facilities on its campus. These facilities are available for pupils between the ages of 8 and 18. Resident house staff oversee the welfare of the pupils, supported by other teaching and non-teaching resident staff, including a matron who is a trained nurse. The total number of students in each boarding house does not exceed 70.

The school’s 1160 students, representing 27 different nationalities, are taught predominantly by British staff. At Harrow International School, the medium of instruction is English and the school offers an educational programme, based on the English National Curriculum, leading to IGCSE, A/S and A2 Level examinations. The latter qualify pupils for direct admission to top universities in the UK, Australia and USA. Harrow International School has a wide ranging extra curricular programme, giving students opportunities to develop their musical, drama, artistic and sporting talents to a high level. The facilities at the school are excellent, matching the very best on offer in the UK. The same is true of the level of care and support for all pupils, which ensures that their welfare and academic progress is carefully monitored. All children from Year 1 on belong to one of six Houses and in the Secondary School, pastoral care is provided through the House system.

In addition to the general education available, the school also has a Language Centre, offering a year round English as a Second Language (ESL) programme for students who wish to improve their English. ESL instruction is also available as part of a Leisure/Cultural/Supporting Short Course programme offered by the school on Saturdays and during the main holidays.
