Harrison Public Schools

The Harrison Public School District is a comprehensive public school district serving students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade, located in the municipality of Harrison, in Hudson County, New Jersey. Harrison is located 12 miles to the west of New York City, and is sandwiched between Newark (the state's largest city) to the west and Jersey City to the east.

Harrison is one of New Jersey's 31 Abbott Districts.

The Harrison Public School District is comprised of three schools:

Lincoln Elementary School (grades Pre-K to 5). Lincoln Elementary School is located on Cross Street. JoAnne Dignazio-Botch is the current Principal, and Frederick N. Osterkorn, III is the current Assistant Principal.
Washington Middle School (grades 6 to 8). Washington Middle School is located on Hamilton Street. Alan R. Doffont is the current Principal, and Brian Duffy is the current Assistant Principal.
Harrison High School (grades 9 to 12). Harrison High School is located at the intersection of Fifth Street and Harrison Avenue. Ronald F. Shields is the current Principal, and Thomas Carney is the current Assistant Principal. Harrison High School has numerous team sports, and is a member of the BCSL National athletic conference and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Construction of a new Harrison High School began in January, 2005, and is slated to open in September, 2007 for the 2007-2008 school year. The new Harrison High School is located at the intersection of Kingsland Avenue and Hamilton Street on the former site of Clayton Container. A new stadium is being constructed along with the school building. It will include a football/soccer field, baseball diamond, softball diamond, track around the fields, and 3 tennis courts. Spaces for the high school include thirty general classrooms, four special education classrooms, two classrooms for small group instruction, two gymnasiums, a dance/aerobics studio, instrumental/vocal music room, cafeteria, auditorium, media center, science labs, computer room, and faculty spaces.

The renovation of the current Harrison High School to become the new Washington Middle School has been put on hold indefinitely due to the lack of funding due to the scandal involving the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (NJSCC) and mismanagement of funds. ^[1]
