Harris Jayaraj (born January 8, 1975) is a musician and film music composer (music director, in Indian parlance) from South India. He has written or played music for many Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films. He lives in Chennai, India. Though his music follows the style of A.R.Rahman, Harris - over a period of six years - has established a style for himself. Harris is also known for his penchant for good lyrics in the songs that he compose. Though choosy in his assignments, he has accomplished very well as a quality music director. Since 2004, he is a household name for most of South Indians.

[edit] Career
Harris entered the world of film music as a musician, playing the keyboard for many films. He started as a composer by writing advertising jingles.
His first movie score was the music for the Tamil movie Minnale (2001). All songs from this movie were big hits. One song from the movie, "Vaseegara", became a pop hit which ruled the charts for many weeks. He next composed music for the Tamil movies 12B and Majnu. Neither film was a hit at the box office, though his film songs were once again extremely popular. His first film score for Bollywood was the music for Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein, a remake of Minnale.
He has since worked on a number of movies, And has given big hits. His music, while popular as a stand-alone item, does not seem to be able to give mediocre films a boost at the box office.
