Harnam Singh Grewal

Harnam Singh GREWAL (高禮和) CBE ED is a career civil servant of Hong Kong. He grew up and lived most of his life in Hong Kong. Upon completion of his University education, he returned to serve in the Government of Hong Kong. The last post he held was Secretary for the Civil Service. He retired to Canada in the 1990's.

Harnam Singh Grewal's family originates from Punjab, India.

[edit] Early Days

He spent his childhood and attended school in the Eastern District, Hong Kong in the 1940's and 1950's. He is an avid hockey fan and has represented Hong Kong on various occasions.

He attended primary school at the Sir Ellis Kadorie School, Hong Kong, in the late 1940's. He attended Queen's College, Hong Kong in Causeway Bay and completed his secondary education there in the 1960's. He then went on to England and completed his University education at the University of Cambridge in the late 1960's.

[edit] Career with the Hong Kong Government

He initially taught at the Queen's College Hong Kong. When the Government recruited Administrative Officers, he applied and was taken on. He was soon appointed to the relatively important post District Officer Taipo in the late 1960's. He moved up and became the Commissioner of Customs and Excise in 1984. He retired as Secretary for the Civil Service in the 1990's.
