Harmony Central
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Harmony Central is a popular community website for musicians, established in 1994 by Scott Lehman and Wilson Chan. It is operated by HarmonyCentral.com, Inc., that was purchased by Musician's Friend in 2005. Contents of site include news, product and gear review, free articles on various music/audio production related subjects, community forums, etc. The site has extensive coverage of new equipment and the Winter and Summer NAMM shows. The bulk of the site is contained in musical equipment review and discussion forums revolving around music equipment.

[edit] Forums
The Harmony Central Discussion Forums are one of the most popular places on the Internet for musicians to discuss instruments, recordings, and popular musical trends. While all forms of music are welcome to be discussed in the forums, they seem remain heavily biased in favor of various guitars and guitar music due to the considerably higher traffic within numerous guitar sub-forums. Many sub-forums have very heavy traffic and can move at almost chat room like speed.
[edit] Gear reviews
Visitors to Harmony Central are encouraged to write reviews of equipment they have purchased. Occasionally, these reviews have been known to be quite humorous; as anyone can leave a review regardless of their reviewing or playing skills. Rumors frequently circulate on the discussion forums that when a review is posted that contains either too many positives or negatives it has been posted as a trolling attempt, or that it has been posted by a manufacturer as a form of negative or positive advertising. Furthermore, competent and unbiased reviews can be difficult to obtain due to the fact that many people who purchase potentially expensive musical equipment are heavily biased in favor of the equipment they paid a premium price for and own. However, Harmony Central management believes that the open sourced nature of the Equipment review section is a largely positive attribute, as the sheer number of reviews available for each piece of equipment allows a prospective buyer to more accuarately predict the average owner experience and identify trends (such as contstruction defects or tonal characteristics) over an entire range of products, something that cannot be gauged from (potentially paid for) reviews which appear in magazines.
[edit] Criticism
Harmony-Central was founded by entreprenuers Scott Lehman and Wilson Chan, who sold the site to internet equipment retailer Musician's Friend in 2005. Musician's Friend, upon purchasing the site, insisted that Harmony Central would become a mouthpiece for neither Musician's Friend nor its parent company, retail giant Guitar Center, though accusations of corporate censorship and propagandism appear in the discussion forums every once in a while. Although accusations of corporate bias are routine, almost none of the actual content or user-accessible features have changed since the corporate purchase of the site.
It should be noted like many other sites with a political forums it has been overun with racist Jewish terrorists since their false flag coup of 9-11.
The moderator team are inclined to permit this shrill and violent minority a free hand in dicsussions.
So much so that the whole site reeks of it.
Best avoided.
