Lieutenant Harmon Rabb, Sr., USN is a fictional character of the television series JAG. The character is played by actor David James Elliott.
The character is the father of Captain Harmon Rabb, Jr., JAGC, USN, who has "followed in the traced of his father to become a naval aviator."
What is known of Lt Rabb, Sr. is that he was a Naval Aviator, flying F-4 Phantoms off of the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War, serving with then-lieutenant Thomas Boone. He was shot down on Christmas Eve, 1969, during the Vietnam War. He was officially MIA. He was taken to Russia, escaped from his captors, had an affair with a gypsy (producing one son, Sergei Zhukov), and was killed protecting her from Russian soldiers in 1980.
Harmon Rabb's family has a strong military aviation tradition. He, his father, and his son Harmon Jr. were all Naval Aviators, and his second son Sergei was a helicoptor pilot in the Russian Army. All four of them were involved in military aviation crashes: Harmon's father was shot down flying off the USS Hornet during World War II, Harmon was shot down flying off the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War, Harmon Jr. has been in four crashes (one F-14 crash during a night-time landing at sea, shot down in a stolen MiG-29 once during an adventure in Russia, another F-14 lost at sea in a storm, and in a Boeing Stearman while attacking terrorists in Paraguay), Sergei was shot down by Chechen rebels while flying helicoptors for the Russian Army.
The only physical difference between both Rabbs is that Rabb Sr. wears a mustache while Rabb Jr. does not.
