Hard start

A hard start is a rocketry term referring to an explosion of fuel. Rocket fuels, Hypergolic or otherwise must mix in the right quantities to have a controlled rate of thrust. A hard start indicates that the proportion of the fuels(s) or oxidizer that entered the combustion chamber was incorrect. The result can be an excessive amount of thrust or an explosion, possibly causing structural failure.
