　　Harbin Engineering University, One of the key universities in China with engineering as its core, encompassing science and management and conducting the supporting programs of humanities and social science.

　　HEU, traces its origin to the famous Military Engineering Academy established in Harbin on September 1,1953. In 1970 Harbin Shipbuilding Engineering Institute was formed. With the approval from the State Education Commission,HSEI changed its name to Harbin Engineering University in 1994. The University has 7 colleges,10 departments. With a student body of over 10700, the university has a staff of 2100,including 158 professor, 465 associate professor, 2 academicians of China Academy of Engineering, 2 members of the Disciplinary Appraisal Group in the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council and more than 60 doctoral advisors.

　　The university is one of the first universities authorized by the state to award doctor`s and master`s degrees, HEU has 3 research station for postdoctoral fellows, 11 courses conferring doctor`s degree, 31 courses conferring master`s degree, 4 engineering field conferring master of engineering`s degree, conferring MBA degree.HEU has 1 the first-class courses conferring doctor`s degree, 1 national key discipline and 11 ministerial key disciplines.

　　The university has always laid stress on scientific research, achieving nearly 1800 outstanding research results, among which 39 items had won the national awards, and 446 items has won the ministerial or provincial level awards.

　　The university has established cooperative relationship with more than 20 foreign universities or research institutions, including scholars & academic exchange and cooperative research development.

　　The university pass the preliminary appraisal for the "211 project" in 1996 and agreeing to the university`s project construction during the Ninth Five-Year Plan.
