Happy is a town in Swisher County, Texas, United States. The population was 647 at the 2000 census.

Happy is located at 34°44.6′N 101°51.4′WGR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 647 people, 267 households, and 182 families residing in the town. The population density was 233.5/km² (607.5/mi²). There were 295 housing units at an average density of 106.4/km² (277.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.18% White, 0.62% African American, 1.24% Native American, 6.80% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.31% of the population.

There were 267 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.97.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $28,393, and the median income for a family was $39,375. Males had a median income of $26,964 versus $17,917 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,618. About 10.9% of families and 13.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.1% of those under age 18 and 10.0% of those age 65 or over.

  • On Google's personalized homepage[1], Happy, Texas is the default setting for the "Weather" information box.
  • A 1999 movie named Happy, Texas and starring Jeremy Northam, Steve Zahn, Aly Walker, Ileana Douglas and William H. Macy was NOT shot primarily in its namesake town. However, you get a brief shot of a replica of a sign that welcomes visitors to Happy as the characters in the movie enter Happy.
  • A VISA Card commercial filmed in the mid 1990's featuring United Supermarkets makes a mention that the Supermarket chain is located "Not far from 'The Town Without a Frown.'"
