Heinkel is not female in Hellsing! Just in Crossfire. But thats a completely different character in Crossfire and should not be compaered with Hellsing Heinkel. Read Heinkel's profile on Wikipedia where Hiranos statements are posted.

Yes, thanks, I'm well aware of the interview in Puff magazine last year...and I know they are completely, 100% separate characters. But for now, we refer to Heinkel as "she", because that's what we've been given so far in Hellsing. Check "her" profile in volume 5 (not volume 6, my bad). The profiles may be iffy but it's all we have to go on. Referring to Heinkel as male is incorrect, since Hirano said Heinkel is a hermaphrodite/intersex anyway. If Heinkel is indeed intersexual, referring to "hir" as male is just as wrong as calling hir female.

Until Hirano actually clears up this confusion, or text in the manga contradicts the info we have now, Heinkel can only be referred to as "she" as that's what's used in the manga. Nobody is sure if Hirano was serious (personally, I think he was), and the profiles in volume 5 contradict his statement that Crossfire and Hellsing are separate, even though we know they really are separate. There's too much contradiction and confusion, as well as a lack of actual evidence in the text of the manga. Heinkel in Hellsing obviously isn't "completely" female, but until something comes up, we go with what we have in the manga. I'm hoping another character will make reference to his/her/hir gender.

I am also wondering if Dark Horse simply translated the profile incorrectly. I didn't really know this before, but the Japanese language does not classify nouns by gender, and does not use actual pronouns. The word "she" in DH's translation of Heinkel's profile might simply be an assumption based on the fact that Heinkel was a woman in Crossfire...

I'm pretty sure that men and women have different patterns of speech in Japanese, so maybe Heinkel's way of speaking would suggest his/her/hir gender. I'll ask someone fluent in Japanese about this stuff and report here late. Schrödinger 20:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm only reading the japanese versions of Hellsing (so I dont have the english ones) and there Heinkel uses "male language". Atm i dont remember clearly which way heinkel speaks in Crossfire, but i think she uses "watashi" aka "womens language". I think it ll be the best to define Heinkel as neutral as long as Hirano wont tell us about its real gender.

Mh maybe I ve never seen this translation anyway^^; I just know the original and the german version
