He is currently single. His hobbies are reading, waterskiing, beach volleyball and going to the movies.

At 1.91 m and 91 kg, he is one of the taller goalkeepers. He is also known for taking free kicks and penalty kicks. He claims his greatest moments in his career are emerging as World Cup runner-up 2002, UEFA Champions League finalist 2002, and promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with VfB Oldenburg.

He moved to Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer and has been their number one goalkeeper ever since. He was a member of the team that lost to Real Madrid in the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final.
