The soundtrack for the Disney Channel original series Hannah Montana was released on October 24, 2006 via Walt Disney Records. The first eight songs on the album are sung by the character Hannah Montana, who is played by Miley Cyrus. There are also four songs by other artists, and another track, the last on the album, that is sung by Cyrus (out of her Hannah Montana character) and her father Billy Ray Cyrus.
Eight songs have already charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Best of Both Worlds" and "Who Said", which have both peaked at #92, and "If We Were A Movie" (peaking at #47). The Soundtrack has 2 Discs in the Limited Edition version. The first disc is an Audio disc with 13 songs, and the second disc is a DVD containing 5 music videos used in the show from January 15, 2006. The album surprisingly debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 280,000 copies in its first week and beating out such artists as John Legend and My Chemical Romance's album The Black Parade. The album held its ground in its second week, beating The Who's first album that was released in 24 years. Remaining at the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 with 202,000 copies sold. The closest competition was music legend Barry Manilow. In its third week on the chart, it fell to number five, and stayed at fifth for the fourth week. It then fell to seventh in week five. The album returned to the top five in its sixth week when it hit second. That same week, it broke one million sales.
The album was the first TV soundtrack to debut on the chart at number one, and the first from a TV series in 20 years to hold the number one position (another Disney TV soundtrack, the High School Musical soundtrack, reached number one earlier in 2006, but it was from a TV movie rather than a series).[1] In December 2006, the album was certified Double Platinum.
Montana was in Times Square, New York on October 24, 2006 to sign copies of her album.
