Hampton Loade
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hampton Loade is a village in Shropshire, England along the Severn Valley. It is situated on the east bank of the River Severn at grid reference SO747864, and is notable for its unusual current-operated chain ferry to the hamlet of Hampton on the west bank that gives it its name - 'Loade' is derived from lode, an old English word for ferry. Bridgnorth is its post town, 4 miles due north and is in Bridgnorth district council. Hampton Loade is in the Ludlow parliamentary constituency.
A Severn Valley Railway station serves the hamlet of Hampton. [1]
There is an unusual bridge close to Hampton Loade: a small roadway is suspended below two large waterpipe arches[2]
