Hampden Park railway station serves Hampden Park in East Sussex. It is on the East Coastway Line, and train services are provided by Southern.
The station is located between the course of the mainline and Eastbourne, and trains pass through the station twice - once on the way to Eastbourne, and once on the way out of Eastbourne, although not all trains stop on both passes. Because of this unusual arrangement, connections are advertised to allow passengers on the Victoria-Eastbourne service to pick up the stopping service to Hastings. This connection just works, in both directions. Passengers trying to make the more obvious connection at Eastbourne would just miss it by one minute.
Passengers are also subject to confusion as both platforms are shorter then 12 cars and some trains from London divide at Haywards Heath railway station
[edit] Service
The typical off-peak service is:
- 3tph (trains per hour) to Hastings (2 direct and 1 via Eastbourne)
- 2tph to Brighton (1 direct and 1 via Eastbourne)
- 1tph to London Victoria
