Hammerstein is a fictional robot created by Pat Mills who first appeared in 1978 as a member of Ro-Busters in the British comic Starlord and later 2000AD but is best known as the leader of the ABC Warriors in the latter.

[edit] Physical description
Hammerstein is described as a Mark IV war droid and was commissioned in the early 21st Century to fight in the Volgan Wars. Hammerstein's right hand is a hammer that is used in hand to hand combat while on the back of his left he has a missile launcher. There are tank tracks on his feet to aid mobility. Hammerstein also has two sockets in his waist to attach auxiliary arms but he finds these embarrassing. During combat operations his head has a grim human like face but after he was decommissioned this was replaced with 'civilian' head that features a single square 'eye'.

The USA enters the war against the Volgans deploying its military robots, of which Hammerstein is one.

After the war ends, Hammerstein is recruited by Colonel Lash to form a team to take to Mars.

Having returned to Earth, Hammerstein fights as part of President Robert L. ('Smooth') Booth's guard under General Blood 'n' Nuts.

Resolving to find new purpose now that he is no longer at war with the Judges, Hammerstein enters Mega-City One.

Hammerstein re-enlists as a war-droid under the leadership of Torquemada. However, he quickly realises he doesn't agree with the principals for which he is fighting and switches sides.

- Hardware, the story this was based on is a version of his history around The Cursed Earth period although in this the scavenged robot keeps killing and has to be destroyed.
