Named after Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjold, Hammarskjold High School is a public high school located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and has an enrollment of roughly 1,300 students. The principal of Hammarskjold High School (2005) is Terry Reid, and the vice-principals are Jenny Lamb and Nicole Riva.

Hammarskjold High School was constructed in 1962 in response to rapidly increasing enrollment at the former City of Port Arthur's other public high schools (Port Arthur Collegiate Institute, Hillcrest High School, and Lakeview High School). The school was given its name through a student referendum.
Hammarskjold accepted students in fall 1962 with only the two storey classroom wing completed. The first student assembly at Christmas had male students sitting on the gym floor while the girls sat on the steel chairs, as the bleachers were not completed yet. The official opening was on May 22, 1963.
Hammarskjold High School has undergone numerous renovations and expansions throughout its history. The most recent expansion saw the addition of a library and music room in the school's former technology wing. Several technology classrooms have been converted to academic classrooms along with the school's increasing emphasis on academics over vocations.

The school's football team, the Vikings, has lost only 3 games in the past 5 seasons, and has won 3 city championships in that span. In 2004, the Vikings became the first Thunder Bay representative at the first annual Northern Bowl, which took place at University Stadium on the Wilfred Laurier University Campus in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Hammarskjold lost that game 27-22, but their solid showing helped the Ontario football community realize that Thunder Bay football was as competitive as anywhere in the province. This season, Hammarskjold went 7-1 and headed to the Northern Bowl for the second consecutive season. This year's game took place in North York, Ontario, Canada, where the Vikings won 17-3. The 2006-2007 roster consists of promising players such as Izzy Malik, Ross Nyantakyi, Jeff Moorley and Alex Michalik. As of November 5th, 2006 they have not lost a game in the regular season.
Head coach Kevin Campbell is highly regarded in the national football community, and won the award for Canada's best highschool football coach in 2004. Former defensive coordinator Mike Judge has taken over as head coach this season, but Campbell remains an integral part of the program.
