Haley Scott (née James) is a fictional character on the CW television series One Tree Hill, played by Bethany Joy Galeotti. Haley is Lucas Scott’s best friend and Nathan Scott’s wife.

Haley James is the youngest daughter of Jimmy and Lydia James. She has grown up along with her best friend Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) in Tree Hill, a small North Carolina town, and works as a waitress in Karen’s Café. She attends Tree Hill High School, and is known for her cautious and studious ways.

Lucas’ half brother Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) – a rich bad boy, and the star player of the Ravens basketball team – asks Haley to tutor him to make Lucas jealous, she agrees to it to make life easier for Lucas, who was being hazed by the team, because Nathan was the captain and told them to. But to Haley and Nathan's surprise they become closer and eventually fall in love with each other. Nathan has a drastic affect on Haley, she was always smart but unpopular, but now because she is dating the star player of the team she becomes popular, and her appearance changes, much to Lucas's dissaproval, as he still doesn't trust Nathan. But even she manages to help Nathan and Lucas's relationship, they becomemore civil towards each other, and at the end of the season they call themselves brothers. In the season one finale, during the middle of her junior year, Haley shocked viewers, when revealing that she and Nathan had got married.

As their marriage continues, Haley and Nathan seem to encounter more and more hardships as a young couple, realising that their marriage might hinder their dreams, Nathan's dream being Basketball, and Haley's being her music. Also with the arrival of Chris keller who Haley has a musical connection with, problems in the marriage are escalated, especially as Nathan doesn't trust Chris. Haley however is offered a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to go on tour with Chris Keller (Tyler Hilton), The Wreckers (Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp) and Gavin DeGraw, she reluctantly accepts unlike Nathan who had refused his dream of attending High Flyers, an elite basketball camp just to be with his wife. This sends Nathan on a downward spiral, but Haley fulfills her dreams by building a music career and by performing her songs in front of huge crowds. However Haley once again shocked the viewers as she arrived at Nathan’s doorstep at the season two finale.

Beginning their senior year in questionable terms, Nathan and Haley struggle with their marriage. Haley moves in her former appartment with Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and becomes a cheerleader. Though one relationship was going wrong, Haley was able to reconnect with Lucas. As they are able to re-establish their foundation as best friends, Haley and Lucas begin their senior year the same way they had began their junior year, but also with a twist as Haley knows about Lucas's HCM, and wants him to stop playing basketball. Later on after a slow process Haley and Nathan begin to re-establish their relationship as a married couple once again. Having many things yet to discuss, and many obstacles yet to overcome both Haley and Nathan need to reunite as a fan favorite. At the middle of the third season, Haley and Nathan finally became a couple again and decide to renew their marriage in front of their loved ones. The wedding took place in the season three finale, and a shocking cliffhanger takes place where Haley might be pregnant and Nathan's fate is unknown. The episode ends with Haley's desperate and touching call for help.

During the premiere of season four, Brooke was viewed as being the one pregnant, but after a few episodes, it was Brooke covering for Haley's pregnancy. Because of Haley's and Nathan's debt, she's been working shifts at Karen's Cafe and will be tutoring Rachel in calculus.Haley jumped in the way of a car so it would not hit Nathan, the car was being driven by Daunte. Daunte lent Nathan money and Nathan couldnt pay him back so he tried to get back at him. As Daunte tried to drive his car into Nathan, Haley pushed Nathan out of the way and got hit herself. While lying unconscious, Lucas who saw everyting that happened had a heart attack by her side. After a string of operations she is fine, and to her and Nathan's delight they find that the baby has a heart beat.

- Haley is often referred to as “Tutor Girl”, a name given by Brooke Davis because of how Haley and Nathan met.
- Because she is pregant, Brooke called her "pregnant".
- Haley sang Elsewhere, Let Me Fall, When the Stars Go Blue (with Chris Keller) and Halo.
