"Halcyon" is a trance song by British DJ and trance artist Chicane, pseudonym of Nick Bracegirdle. It is the 5th track of his second album Behind the Sun and also part of the "No Ordinary Morning" / "Halcyon" double A-side CD single – the third released from the album.
Many confuse it with the Orbital song of the same name.
In an otherwise mellow album, "Halcyon" is perhaps the most fast paced and upbeat track and thus a staple for club-goers. Disco fans also point out the similarity between this track and the popular Italo disco track "Give Me Love".
The title refers to Halcyon, a genus of kingfishers (specifically, those of the Halcyonidae family) in scientific classification, as is evident by the opening moments of the song, where a kingfisher's call is heard before then tempo starts to pick up and the song begins.
