Hagop Kazazian Pasha
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hagop Kazazian Pasha (alternative spelling: Agop Kazazyan) was a notable Ottoman civil servant of Armenian origin. Born in 1833, he received a state funeral after his death in 1891, which was caused by a fall from his horse.
Although he was trained for and had practiced medicine, Kazazian served the Ottoman State first as the Secretary of the Privy Treasury - the personal treasury of the Sultan, and later as Minister of Finance. Famed at the time for his loyalty to Sultan Abdulhamid II, he died in a horse-riding accident while riding a horse that had been a gift from the Sultan.
He was one of only a handful of Armenians to have had the title of "pasha" bestowed upon them.
