Hac Sa Beach (Traditional Chinese: 黑沙海灘, Portuguese: 'Baía de Hác Sá', literally "Black Sand Bay") is the largest natural beach in Macau. It is on the southeast side of Coloane. As its Chinese name implied, Hác Sá Beach is famous for its black sand. However, to prevent the beach from disappearing due to erosion, the government "refilled" the beach with yellow sand.

[edit] Accommodation

The Westin Resort is on the northeast end of the beach.

There is also a youth hostel.

[edit] Dining

There is a picnic and camping area (together with barbecue pits) available for public use at the Northeast end of the beach and a variety of snack stands.

There is also a Portuguese restaurant called "Fernando's", famous among locals in Macau and tourists from Hong Kong for it's suckling pig and other Macanese (blend of Asian and Portuguese cuisine) dishes. Fernando's has a front dining area and a back pavilion with open-air bar and fan-cooled main dining room (more sedate and spacious than the front dining area). Fernando's does not accept reservations on the weekend and payment must be made in cash (in Macau Patacas or Hong Kong Dollars) so ensure you arrive with time (and cash) to spare.

[edit] Activities

In addition to the beach itself, the Hác Sá Sports and Recreation Complex has an Olympic-size swimming pool, children's pool, tennis courts, and a sports field.

At Hác Sá Reservoir, behind the Hác Sá Picnic Park on the main road above the beach, the Water Activities Centre offers pedal boat rentals, a refreshment pavilion, and a fitness circuit which runs through the wooded area around the reservoir. A long swinging bridge provides pedestrian access from the parking area.

[edit] How To Get There

If you are staying at the Westin Resort there is a shuttle bus from the ferry terminal every 30 minutes (on the hour and the half-hour from the ferry terminal).
