[edit] Description

Hövelhof is located within the district Paderborn but is not to be found within the city itself. It has a population of approximately 15,900 (2004) and also encompasses the nearby village of Hövelriege.

Unusually for a village as small as Hövelhof, it is relatively self-contained—there are numerous supermarkets, restaurants, clothes shops, travel agencies, pubs and much more, meaning that the village could theoretically remain independent of the city of Paderborn. In fact, the only common feature of a fully-fledged town that is missing from Hövelhof is a cinema, for which inhabitants do indeed need to venture into Paderborn City Center—approximately 15 km (10 mi) away. It also has five schools, its own fire brigade, and a library.

Hövelhof has two main festivals during the year. The first is the Schützenfest, a celebration of the St. Hubertus Hunters' Guild, which takes place on the hunting grounds. The second is the Hövelmarkt, a general village fair with not only market stalls, but also fairground rides and traditional German dances, complete with traditional music and costume.

The local government is dominated by the conservative CDU.

[edit] Natives of Hövelhof

  • Heinz Stücke, world traveler and cyclist
  • Hans-Georg Liemke, world traveler as well, fan of Iberian goat cheese, the Oakland Raiders, and precision machines. Locally known a "Hage", he is rumored to be first to potentially ascend to the title of "Burgermister of Hövelhof" in over three generations. Is a good friend of Steven W. Phillips, a manically clean boat owner, and R. Travis Atkins IV, who is also known as Burton's MVC, or Most Valuable Customer, spending large amounts of money each season on ultra-stylish snowboard equipement.
