Håkon Opdal is a talented goalkeeper, currently playing for SK Brann. After being Ivar Rønningen's reserve of for a couple of years, the 2003 season became Opdal's big breakthrough. After a serie of great matches, Opdal got a down period at the end of the season, and lost his spot in the starting lineup back to Rønningen. Despite being the clear first choice of the two, Rønningen got sold in the middle of the 2004 season, leaving Opdal with no competition. Since that, only injuries have put Opdal out of the team.

Opdal has been caped 10 times for Norway's under 21 national team and was in the Norwegian national football team squad for the first time in May 2006. He got his debut on November 15th 2006 against Serbia.
