Gyula Milványi-Csesznegi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Baron Gyula Milványi de Cseszneg(i) et Kisbabot (1914, Csorvás—?) was a Hungarian poet, translator, politician, and, as Julius I, Prince of Pindus.
In 1941, during World War II, he became a counsel for Aimone of Aosta, who was at the time King Tomislav II of the Independent State of Croatia. In 1943, due to his influential Italian friends and his Aromanian relatives, Baron Milványi was proclaimed prince of the Aromanian state formed around Pindus by Fascist collaborator Alcibiade Diamandi (who had previously ruled it as Alcibiades I).
Prince Julius was only a nominal ruler, and he sought contact with the Allied governments. In 1943, as Nazi Germany's presence took over from the Italian troops, he was forced to resign due to his Jewish kinship, and was arrested by the Gestapo. He managed to escape back to Hungary.
After the war, he escaped with Aimone of Aosta to Argentina.
