György Cziffra, Jr.

György Cziffra, Jr. (died 1981) was a Hungarian conductor. He nearly died as a child during imprisonment with his family when his father, famous pianist Georges Cziffra, was arrested for political reasons after World War II. György and his father worked together on several recordings and live performances.

He was a brilliant pianist like his father, but he decided to turn to conducting.

Cziffra Jr. died by committing suicide by setting fire to his Paris apartment. A suicide note has been found in the remains of his apartment, thus his death has been ruled a suicide. The official story however, is that his death was an accident. Naturally, his father was heartbroken, and from that day on he never performed or recorded with an orchestra again.
