The Great Western Railway 1000 Class or County Class was a class of steam locomotive. 32 were built between 1945 and 1947, but none has survived. But plans to build a replica of 1032 county of bicester a missing which is never built.

These Engines were the result of a development project by the Chief Mechanical Engineer Frederick W. Hawksworth. He was working on a design for a new 4-6-2 Pacific Express engine for the Great Western, the County Class was originally a Modified Hall 6959 Class fitted with a new, 280 psi boiler, a smaller version of that which Hawksworth had intended for his Pacific. The aftermath of War Effort in Britain, however meant that the Railway Executive had the last word as to what companies could or could not build, and, since the Southern Railway had just released its Merchant Navy Class which was a similar device in concept, the project was Shelved. The formation of British Railways in 1948 put paid to the Pacific for ever, however, the now 32 strong Class of engines based on the design of the adapted Modified Hall lived on to do useful work throughout Western Region Territory, Working turn and turn about with Castles on crack expresses to and from Paddington. The engines were given names and numbers of a redundant class of 4-4-0 tender engine that was part of George Jackson Churchward's locomotive standardisation programme in the early days of the 20th century, all of Churchward's Counties had already been scrapped. although there was one member called 1032 county of biester which was never built and is now undergoing construction at didcot, oxfordshire,

BR gave them the power classification 6MT.
