- This is where it gets complicated. WP isn't very good on the history of Guyana, but from what I can dig out Demerara was just a part of British Guiana - an original colony which was consolidated into a single colony. But after having a peek at cricketarchive, it appears that Demerara was just a name - at least until the Jones Cup started to become first-class between Demerara and Berbice (another old region) in 1971-72.
