Noun:
1. A member of the punk rock subculture who has adopted various philosophies from the carribean pirates.
2. A style of punk rock music listened to by gutterpirates.
[edit] Lifestyle
Gutterpirates are members of the scum punk and streetpunk communities that have adopted the "drink rum, loot and plunder" lifestyle, inspired by the tales of pirates such as Long John Silver and Blackbeard.
Gutterpirates are predominately white, middle-class teens and twentysomethings who have made an effort to reject the society in which they feel disillusioned. Most are homeless, do not work steady jobs and wander like vagabonds.
Heavy drug and alchohol use is common among the gutterpirate community.
Most gutterpirates are self confessed nihilists and openly admit to stealing food to survive, Because 'looting' and 'plundering' are part of their core beliefs. Self-mutillation, masochism, and sadism are also quite prominent.
It is noteworthy to mention that The Gutterpirate Code was inspired by the lives of G.G. Allin and Edward Teach.
[edit] History
The Gutterpirate Community began in the U.S. in the midwest in the late nineties and has found its way to other areas where punk rock is popular such as both coasts and England.
It is said that the lifestyle was created by an alchoholic vagabond named Captain Spatula who inspired many others in the places he wandered.
[edit] Fashion
Gutterpirates favor an outlandish and ecclectic blend of traditional pirate (Such as black and white stripes, ruffled shirts, bandannas, hair and beard braids, and beads.) and punk rock (such as studded leather, plaid patterns and colorful mohawks/spiked hair.) garb.
[edit] Music
Gutterpirate bands are typically a blend of scum punk and celtic punk. Their songs are usually about alchohol consumption, theivery, rape, vandalism, masochism, and constant travel. Most perform songs inspired by traditional pirate stories and punk covers of sea chanties. Gutterpirate bands include Scurvy, Mizzenmast and The Salty Dogs.
[edit] Slang
Gutterpirates use a blend of streetpunk and pirate slan, i.e. a "landlubber": a person outside of the gutterpirate community.
