Gustav von Schönberg (born 21 July 1839 in Stettin; died 1908) was a German economist.
Schönberg studied law and politics at the universities of Bonn and Berlin. After successfully completing these studies he transferred in 1860 to the civil service and within 5 years was promoted to Gerichtsassessor.
Subsequently, Schönberg worked at the Seminar of the Prussian Statistical Bureaux. In 1867, he took call to the role of Lecturer in Political Economy at the Prussian Agricultural Institute in Proskau, where among other things, he was heavily involved in the establishment of several agricultural cooperatives in Schlesien.
In autumn 1868, Schönberg was appointed Professor ordinarius in Economics at the University of Basel and in 1870 moved to the same subject at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. Three years later he moved again to the University of Tübingen, where in addition to his role as Professor ordinarius in Political Science, he was also Chancellor for some years. An important part of his work was starting, in 1887, the publication of the Tübinger Zeitschrift für die gesamte Staatswissenschaft (Tübingen Magazine for the Entire Political Science), a task handled by Schönberg along with Schäffle and Fricker.
The Association for Social Politics found in Schönberg a dedicated co-worker, who campaigned vehemently for the social interests of the "labour question".
On 7 December 1907, Schönberg was named Freeman of the City of Tübingen. He died in 1908 at the age of 69.
