[edit] 2005 for Gurmant Grewal

Remember that scene from The Simpsons where... Samaritan 18:16, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Huh ? whats this got to do with Grewal ? Dowew 15:51, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm guessing the Samaritan is saying that Grewal wading from one scandal to another all in 2005 is like Sideshow Bob stepping on all those rakes, one after another. I'll grant that it's a bit of a stretch, though. --Saforrest 07:34, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I know these aren't discussion boards. I couldn't help myself! Samaritan 22:34, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] conspiracy

I deleted " as well as some speculation that the governing party may be using government resources to attempt character assasination against him" from the last sentence of the opening section. No one except Grewal, his immediate circle, and conspiracy theorists have suggested that these controversies are trying to smear Grewal.

[edit] Tapes

1. It was Grewal who claimed to have four hours of tapes, not the media [1]

2. I deleted these sentences:

"Dosanjh, who had been involved in the taped conversations, has speculated that the Conservative party doctored the tapes as a means of throwing suspicion of the Liberals: "The leader of the Opposition had the tapes for 14 days, what were they doing with them?" [2]

In the recordings, it can be heard that Grewal was persuaded to accept the "deal"; that Grewal should tell the media and the public that he was doing it for the reasons, the same reasons as later told by Belinda Stronach; that Grewal was repeatedly told that the Prime Minister would be pleased to meet and shake hand with him to finalise the deal.

In an interview on June 21st, Paul Martin stated that although Mr. Grewal was certainly free to purchase a membership in the Liberal Party if he chose to do so, he would not be welcome as a Liberal candidate. On the same day Conservative party leader Stephen Harper claimed "the incorrect tape was posted on our website." [3]. In this interview, Harper sidestepped any questioning of whether or not Grewal would be welcome to run as a Conservative candidate in the next election."

The Dosanjh quote is correct, but impedes the run of the article; the statemetns about what is in the tapes is highly tendentious; Martin's later comments about Grewal's potential membership is not relevant to this part of the article, the tapes.

[edit] Bonds

I removed this paragraph.

"Volpe had made unfounded allegations regarding profiteering from "bonds" against Grewal which under legal threat he withdrew in the parliament but continued to repeat outside. Grewal says Volpe knew it is not true but he is doing it for political reasons to favour Grewal's political Liberal opponent, a friend of Volpe."

Volpe's official complaint is extant [4] and makes no mention of profiteering; nor did he ever withdraw it in parliament or restate it outside. Yes, in the tapes Grewal asserts that Volpe was motivated because he was a friend of Grewal's Liberal opponent; but Grewal is only guessing at Volpe's motives really were and this does not have any evidentiary value and should be left out of this article.

[edit] Tapes (Dash)

I deleted the clause "but the audio expert Mr. Randy Dash in a letter has concluded that all the four sections of the audio recordings have not been altered." This is not an accurate assessment of Dash's report, who only judged that 3 of 4 were unaltered. Other authorities disagree and say there are edits elsewhere. For the purposes of the encyclopedia article, it is sufficient to note that authenticity is controversial.

[edit] Air Canada incident

I deleted this paragraph:

"Grewal had advised his intentions to the staff of Air Canada before checking-in and actually the staff had guided and assisted him. The incident has been exaggerated and misreported, for instance, it was not packages but an open envelope and Grewal after clearing through the airport security, has spoken to only one passeger who agreed and was comfortable to carry that envlope to Ottawa. "

This is a partisan repetition of an explanation that the president of Grewal's constituency association wrote to local party members on July 14, six weeks after the incident.

[edit] Grewal's own immigration

I deleted this sentence:

"But if anyone would have verified the story before reporting could have easily found that Grewal sold the first installment of his shares after nine months and that too not to Dhillon."

This asserts as fact something that is not in fact in the public domain.
