Guruguru Mountain

Guruguru Mountain is a solid dome shaped volcanic rock in Shurugwi, 3km from Pakame Mission. It is also called Nkulunkulu which is its Ndebele name. Both names mean the biggest. Guru (Shona and iNkulu (Ndebele) both means 'Big'. Repetative words in Shona or Ndebele saves to explain how big the mountain is. It is by far the highest mountain in Shurugwi Rural Areas and quite possible in the Midlands province of Zimbabwe. It is a one solid rock mountain with a natural water spring on top.

It was through volcanic eruption when the lava erupted from the core centre. Some geographers believes that it was once covered by the and was only exposed through the forces of denudation thereby giving it solidness.

The rock has a radius of more than 3km, and a height of more than 500 metres making it probably the highest mountain in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe.

It is seen a great simbol by the locals, some worshipers go to the mountain to pray, there is also a local church which baptize its members in the water from the spring. Traditionally people also consult their ancestors in the mountain.

There is no vegetation that grows on the mountain save at the basement from the rich calcium soils mainly through erosion and the ashes from the volcanic eruption.
