Gurney flap

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Invented by Dan Gurney, the Gurney Flap (or wickerbill) is a right-angle piece of metal rigidly bolted or riveted to a wing's trailing edge increasing lift or downforce. Common applications occur in auto racing, helicopter horizontal stabilizers, and aircraft where high lift is desirous, such as banner-towing airplanes.
