Gunung Leuser National Park

Gunung Leuser National Park is a large national park covering 9,500 km² in northern Sumatra, Indonesia, straddling the border of the provinces of North Sumatra and Aceh. The park is named after its highest point, the 3,381 m Mount Leuser (Gunung Leuser).

The national park protects a wide range of ecosystems, from the coast to high mountains, and lush tropical rainforests.

The area was declared a national park in 1980.

The village of Bukit Lawang, located within the park, is famous for its orangutan sanctuary.
