Gunnar Heiðar Þorvaldsson (Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson) is an Icelandic striker who plays for German Bundesliga side Hannover 96 and the Icelandic national team.
Þorvaldsson started his career at ÍBV in his hometown of Vestmannaeyjar. After establishing himself as the best striker in the Icelandic premier league he was transferred to Halmstads BK in Sweden in 2004. Two years later he had won the Swedish golden boot and was signed by Hannover 96 in Germany.
[edit] Wolverhampton Wanderers fan tries to donate money for a transfer.
When the 2006 January window was arriving, message board posters on WolvesFC.co.uk were trying to find a goal scorer to provide teh team with needed goals. One poster looked at Þorvaldsson as the answer and started a online petition, as well as going to Molineux to attain donations. He was asking for £300,000 to sign him. At one point, Þorvaldsson's agent said that they were talking with Wolves (Glenn Hoddle, manager at the time specifically) about a possible transfer. Þorvaldsson said he was flattered by the interest and attempts to transfer him by Wolves fans, but he doubted that it would happen. Unfortunatley it didn't as talks fell through. He then went on to sign with Hannover 96, also getting attention from Bristol Rovers.
