Gummidipoondi is a town in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Gummdipoondi lies on the road from Chennai to Calcutta. This road is part of the Golden Quadrilateral which is a project launched by the Vajpayee Government. Gummidipoondi prides itself on housing two important factories, Dupont Fibers and Hitech Carbon.

As of 2001 India census^GRIndia, Gummidipoondi had a population of 16,116. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Gummidipoondi has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 63%. In Gummidipoondi, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
