Gulf South

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gulf South is a region of the United States that consists of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, all of which border the Gulf of Mexico on the Gulf Coast of the United States. Some sources include Arkansas, which does not border the Gulf. Oddly, neither Texas nor Florida are part of the usual understanding of the Gulf South, despite their having longer Gulf of Mexico coastlines than the three traditional Gulf South states. This might be due to Texas and Florida's larger populations.

Within Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana the phrase "Gulf South" is used in advertisements, government plans, and just plain common parlance.
