Gulf Cup of Nations

The Gulf Cup (Arabic: كأس الخليج) is a football (soccer) tournament held every two years, open to teams from around the Persian Gulf.
The Gulf Cup was founded at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico by Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The First Gulf Cup tournament took part in Bahrain.
The 18th edition of the Gulf Cup is scheduled to begin on January 17, 2007 in the United Arab Emirates. Group A comprises United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman and Group B comprises Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain. The top two teams in each of the round-robin groups proceed to the next round.
