Guillermo Stábile

Guillermo Stábile (January 17, 1905 - December 27, 1966) was an Argentine footballer and coach. He was born in Parque Patricios, Buenos Aires. With 8 goals in 4 matches, Stábile was the top scorer of the first Football World Cup, held in 1930. He did not play in the first match of Argentina, and played the second match only because Roberto Cherro couldn't play.
He scored what was long thought to be the first World Cup hat-trick in his side's 6-3 defeat of Mexico in the 1930 FIFA World Cup, until on November 10, 2006 world football's governing body FIFA declared that America's Bert Patenaude had scored the first hat-trick 2 days earlier, clearing up a 76 year error. [1]
He played for Huracán (1920-30) in Argentina, and then for Genoa (1934-35) and Napoli (1935-36) of Italy, and Red Star Paris (1936-39) of France.
After retiring, Stábile coached the Argentine national team from 1939 to 1960, with a total of 127 matches, making him one of the few coaches with more than 100 international matches. (As of 2004 there are eight).
Stábile took Argentina to six South American Championships: in 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955 and 1957.
