A descendant of the House of Nassau, founded in 1093, which has ruled Luxembourg since 1890, Guillaume has been Heir Apparent to the throne of Luxembourg since his father's accession in 2000. He is styled HRH The Hereditary Grand Duke, and is a Prince of Nassau and Parma. His godparents are Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg and Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg.

Guillaume's education includes Lycée Robert-Schumann in Luxembourg; Beau Soleil and Institut Le Rosey boarding schools in Switzerland; and Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Camberley, England. Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg

Guillaume's duties include Honorary Chairman, Board of Economic Development of Luxembourg and the Kraizberg Foundation, a charitable institution for the disabled.

His only known relationship was with Norwegian Pia Haraldsen (between 2002 and 2003), adopted daughter of the nephew of Queen Sonja of Norway (born Haraldsen). They met at the 2001 wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway to Mette Marit Hoiby. The relation ended after a year, and the reason could be because of the difference in personalities.

Guillaume is interested in music and sports; he plays piano and enjoys soccer, swimming and volleyball. He speaks Luxemburgish, French, German and English. He regularly represents his parents in many foreign activities.

Guillaume has four younger siblings: Félix, Louis, Alexandra and Sébastien. See also: Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg
