Guildown
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Guildown is an old name for a long hill to the west of Guildford in Surrey now known locally as the Hog's Back because of its visual appearance. This hill is part of the North Downs and is famous for its views. The Guildown was the site of a massacre in 1036 when the guards escorting an Anglo-Saxon prince (see Ælfred Ætheling) were slaughtered and the prince taken into captivity and later murdered.
