Guido is a fictional anthropomorphic forklift from the Pixar animated feature film Cars. Guido is Luigi's best friend, and works with him at Luigi's Casa Della Tires. He is an Italian forklift and can perform a professional pit stop by himself in seconds. The only five words that he knows in English are "Pit Stop", "Boss", "Uh-oh", "Bye-Bye", and "Okay". He is one of the twelve remaining citizens of Radiator Springs. He works in a tire shop with Luigi. He is voiced by Guido Quaroni. His name means "I drive" in Italian.
In the movie, Guido and Luigi (a Fiat) are fans of Ferrari race cars. It makes sense they are Ferrari fans, as Fiat owns a large percentage of Ferrari.
During the race sequence between Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson, Little blue and green Guido is seen wearing an wig of green, white, and red, the colors of the Italian flag. He is holding a yellow and black Ferrari racing shield in each of his forklift arms. This is a joke meant to recall the Tifosi, Ferrari F1's Italian fan base.
[edit] The Pit Stop
At the end of the movie in the final racing sequence, little Guido is the only member of Lightning's pit crew. Chick Hicks's pit crew mocks him and make fun of him. Luigi has to stop him from going after the other pit crew.
No one suspects that little Guido is the fastest tire changer on the planet. The other pit crews are stunned to see him alone doing the task faster than most coordinated teams. The other teams mouths drop (more specifically, Chick Hicks's pit crew's grilles, which resemble mustaches, drop off; the lead crew member grille doesn't drop until Guido says "PEET STOP!!!!!!!!" in English).
After the race, when everyone is back in Radiator Springs, Guido is with Luigi in their tire shop, when the Michael Schumacher Ferrari enters. He wants tires for himself and his friends, but never actually gets the tires. Luigi is so giddy at the arrival of a real Ferrari that he faints from joy. Then when the Ferrari speaks words of praise to Guido in Italian, Guido also faints. (According to the website the Ferraris get the tires after Guido and Luigi re-awaken.)
[edit] Doc's Challenge Scene
Where Guido says: "OK"
When Doc challenges McQueen to a race around Willy's Butte, Luigi excitedly (just before the race begins) asks McQueen if Guido can: "Give a real race car a pit stop". Guido in anticipation then says: "Pit Stop?" McQueen tells them: "The race is only one lap guys, I don't need any help, I work Solo Mio". (This is early in the movie when McQueen hasn't embraced the Radiator Springs inhabitants and hasn't seen Guido in action.)
Luigi unhappily replies: "Fine, race your way." But little Guido doesn't leave, he smiles in anticipation and rocks side to side hoping McQueen will change his mind. McQueen to Guido, "No Pit Stopo, Comprendo?" Guido replies "Ok" and drives off the dirt track.
[edit] Trivia
- Guido and Luigi may have been named after the two swindlers in the fairytale The Emperor's New Clothes.
- Guido appears in the Cars DVD Easter egg, only he takes place of the prairie dogs. (Duplicated for the role too).
