Guhagar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guhagar is a coastal town in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. The town is known for its virgin beach, coir items, coconuts and betel nuts. The town lies at about 50 km from Chiplun. The economy of Guhagar boomed after the Dhabol Power Project was started in the early 1990s a few kilometres north. Hotels sprung up and residents were given well paid jobs. However after the collapse of the project in the late 1990s, most of the townfolk were rendered jobless.
