Gudivada is a census town in Krishna district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a mandal headquarters with more than 100,000 inhabitants, lying as junction of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam-Bhimavaram-Nuzvid in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh of India.

Gudi means temple and vada means town in Telugu. Gudivada might be derived from existence of number of temples in the past. Gudivada was known as Vidarbhapuri in past.

Reference:Khandeyayani Kaikaluru Silasasanam of AD 1628. The place was in existence for over 2,000 years and has been flourishing perpetually from the time of the Satavahanas.

Gudivada was a culture center during the period of Vijayanagar Empire. The excavations discovered certain archaeological remains such as Buddhist and Jain relics. There are also about 99 low mounds with the ruins of Buddhist stupas. The notable one among the old Buddhist Stupas is an elevated mound in a cylindrical form with a semi-spherical top Gudivada is not in Vishakapattanam dis,it is in Krrishna dist
Mahatma Gandhi addressed the public in Gudivada on December 17th, 1933.

Gudivada is located at 16.45° N 80.98° E[3]. It has an average elevation of 6 metres (19 feet).

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Gudivada had a population of 7107. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Gudivada has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 54%. In Gudivada, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Close by villages include Anguluru,Dondapadu,Kuchipudi, Ghantasala,Gudlavalleru, pamaru, Hanuman Junction, Mudinepalli,Ventrapragada, Vanapamula, Nimmakuru, Vadali etc. Many famous people including Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao , Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao,Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, Karedla Narasimham etc. are from the same region.

  • Comes under south central railways. Gudivada acts as junction to Machilipatnam. Frequent trains from Vijayawada, Guntur, Kakinada, Narsapur and Machilipatnam.
  • Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has Gudivada Depot (GDV). Gudivada has frequent bus service from Vijayawada, Eluru, Machilipatnam, and Nuzvid.

Chowtapalli, the village where the famous singer Ghantasal grown up, lies 4 miles from Gudivada.

Being a mandal headquarters. Gudivada is a financial centre. Most of the income is generated from Agriculture and Fishing. Gudivada being in heart of Krishna district is great place for real estate business. Trade mostly depends on agricultural yields in that season from the near by regions. However Jewellery and Gold business and cinema seems to have a special place.

[edit] Gudivada Tirth Jain Temple

The artistry of this ancient idol of Parshvanath is of a special type, beautiful and of a different style. The skilled artists have applied all their skill to the making of this idol and have presented a specimen of matchless, wonderful and distinct type of art. On seeing the idol, one feels that Dharanendradev appears and holds the umbrella over Bhagawan head. It is difficult to find elsewhere-such an extraordinary idol. An annual fair held at this temple is a major festival of the region. The management of this temple is with Shri shwetambar Jain Parshwanath Mandir Trust.
