Thanks for your contributions. I'm having serious trouble locating fr + nl for List of company registers, since I speak only very little french and no dutch at all. If you could google into this, it'd be great. List of company registers is very important for Consumerium --Juxo 12:47 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hello Guaka,
I too am Dutch and I just happen to see your contribution on VPRO. I think you should refrase some sentences to make it a bit more clear for non-Dutch people. If you don't mind I'll do it for you. And, on your personal page: maybe you want to change 'disprove' into 'disapprove' ?

Hello Guaka, I'm afraid that my programming skills may not yet be sufficient to even attempt to extract data from Wikipedia's SQL files with Python. My programming experience consists entirely of one C programming class, and although I am trying to teach myself some stuff over the summer, I have never seen an SQL file or a Python program at work. However, keeping that in mind, I will do what I can :-) --Nelson 16:12 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Why did you redirect structural information theory to a page with every word in the title capitalized? Wikipedia article titles are not capitalized without reason. A lot of us keep moving such articles by newbies to pages with appropriately non-capitalized words. In the text of the article, "structural information theory" was not written in capital letters. Michael Hardy 16:51, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Well, I know. But how can I easily change the title of a page? Also, I started writing it non-capitalized, and then I realized that the capitalization is not really necessary. Guaka 18:02, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Guaka, thanks for adding the Wiki links into my user page, but it wasn't necessary! I know how to link to wiki articles but i left out the links because I want people to view my page (and read it all), not click off to a page about a band or a movie. No harm done :-) but if I'd wanted links I would've put them there!! Regards, --Richard Corbin 22:13, Aug 25, 2003 (UTC)
Hello. I notice you've linked several articles to filter. But filter is a disambiguation page. I've changed some of those links so that they go to electronic filter. Michael Hardy 18:55, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Hi - I noticed your edit on the anti-semitism page. Since I was the one who added the bit you asked about, I thought I'd contact you about it. Looking back on what I wrote, I think I probably put too much emphasis on it, but my main source was a statement by Abraham Foxman, the director of the Anti-Defamation League: "These findings undoubtedly create the climate in which anti-Semitism flourishes and in which governments rationalize it." I was putting particular emphasis on the last part, taking this to mean that governments are merely trying to disguise/rationalize anti-semitism (presumably with arguments that it's merely political opposition to Israel). In retrospect, however, the case looks a lot weaker than I thought it was, so I have no objection to the removal of the statement (as someone has already done). (The source of the League's statements is "http://www.adl.org/PresRele/ASInt_13/4390_13.htm", just in case you'd like to read the whole thing... again, I think I overemphasised a minor part.) Thanks. - Vardion 12:35, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Why I reverted
Read User talk:210.72.12.71 for why I reverted. It was done in a hurry (because the Anon made like 50 bad changes to zh: or something), hence the accident. It has nothing to do with the interlinks being the uppers or downers. They're both ugly. --Menchi (Talk)â
[edit] New pages...
Most users abandon their new pages after creating them; usually it's necessary to jump right in to correct egregious formatting errors, POV, or copyright violations, and I'm pretty bold about doing that when I'm watching Special:Newpages. Sorry if I stepped on your toes... feel free to keep what's good in my edits and ditch the rest. This is a wiki, after all :) -- Seth Ilys 02:09, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikinews demo up and running
Hi!
I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.
You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.
If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:59, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Open Government Information Awareness
Could you please update the Open Government Information Awareness article that you started? The project appears to now be defunct, and the article consists of nothing but a quote from the old website. Hi, thanks for your comment on my Talk. Good work on Bambara language — it still needs a lot of work, but so do virtually all Mande languages. I'm sort of working geographically close to them with my work on the Senufo languages (Mali/Burkina Faso/Côte d'Ivoire), so I might dig into Mande soon. It's an extremely interesting phylum.
I gather that you're Dutch — well, I'm Dutch too, as you probably can see from my username :). Je bent dus Bambara aan het leren? Groet, — mark ✎ 21:00, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Hoi. Groet, — mark ✎ 23:41, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] edit at PXE
hi!
Thx for some corrections at the pxe-article, but why did you take the general description of pxe out of the TOC?
- You mean why I removed the ==About== header? :) Well, it is normal for an encyclopedic article to give an introduction. So the header is a bit redundant. After the intro comes the more detailed stuff, of which the TOC is an overview. I hope this make sense. :) Also, vielen Dank für alles was du am Artikel verbessert has! Vielleicht kannst du noch ein paar Links nach Bootfloppys oder so hinzufügen. Tschüss, G-u-a-k-@ 02:14, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Issues about school articles
In November 2003, there was a VfD debate over Sunset High School (Portland). The debate was archived under Talk:Sunset High School (Portland). What to do with the article is still being contested and has been recently re-nominated for VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Sunset High School (Portland).
I am writing to you because you have participated in such debates before. There still does not exist a wikipedia policy (as far as i can tell) over what to do in regards to articles about specific U.S. public school. My hope is that a real consensus can come out of the debate, and a real policy can take shape. Take part if you are so willing. Kingturtle 02:42, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] N'ko (strange comments on Unicode)
Moved to Talk:N'Ko
Guaka,
Could you please explain the meaning of these comments since it seems you wrote them ?
" In 2004 a proposition presented by the Irish delegation was approved by the working group (WG2). The Technical Unicode committees was blocked by Canada, declaring that the Kamasere accents and three old characters, "Old Ja", "Cha" and "Ra" should be removed — a decision considered political by the other WG members. "
You may email me at patrick.andries<à>xcential.com. I'm one of the Canadian members and I'm astounded by the comments hereabove...
- Patrick, you shouldn't be astounded. The discussions on the Unicode-Afrique list have gone far and wide. When I was in Mali, I was interviewed for television, and one of the questions they asked me was about "the Canadian problem". The N'Ko community is bitterly opposed with Canada's opposition to the encoding of N'Ko, and rejects the technical suggestions Canada has made, in favour of the encoding as it stands. As you have been told a number of times. Evertype 06:58, 2005 Jun 24 (UTC)

[edit] Bambara in IPA
Hi Guaka,
You'd posted a question on the IPA talk page.
A couple thoughts: For an orthography, of course, you only want to mark one tone (or perhaps not mark tone at all, though I expect that would be rather confusing with Bambara). In a phonetic transcription, I personally would only want to do what you have (transcribing only low tones) if I were making a theoretical claim that the low tone is phonologically marked, that a default syllable has high tone, and that a low tone is something more than the default. However, if I felt that both high and low tones were equal, in a symmetrical system, then I would want to transcribe them both explicitly.
Combining tone marks and nasalization is a pain in the ass. One possibility is to use the ogonek (ą, ę, etc.) for nasalization, which gets the nasalization diacritic out of the way of the tone diacritics, but you'll notice that it isn't supported for <o>. (Actually, it is supported by Unicode, but not by many fonts.) (The ogonek was supported in older versions of the IPA, and is still reasonably common, mostly for just this reason.)
Regardless of what you do, however, most people will not have fonts installed that will display both tone and nasalization on a single vowel. I don't know of any good solution to this. Your solution of adding a tilde for nasalization after the vowel is probably as good or better than any. But good luck trying to combine tone diacritics with /ɛ, ɔ/ reliably!
By the way, is nasalization phonemically contrastive in Bambara after nasal consonants? If not, then you don't need to indicate it, since you're giving a phonemic trascription, and that will take care of a huge fraction of the phonetic nasalization. Also, if /ɛ, e/ and /ɔ, o/ aren't distinguished after nasal consonants (as is the case for the Gbe languages, for example), then you can transcribe them <e, o> and avoid many of the problems with the tone marks.
Not sure if this answers your question. ?? --kwami 10:32, 2005 July 14 (UTC)

Circeus 20:39, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

I do not agree with this statement: ""Many current-day hitchhikers combine hitchhiking with hospitality exchange networks for many of the same reasons (cheap; social political reasons; meeting people)."" This MAY possibly apply to SOME countries in Western Europe, but certainly NOT to most if not all countries in Central Europe, all countries in the East of Europe and most if not all countries in Asia. In Eastern Europe (Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia) the share of hitchhikers in hospitality exchange networks is close to 0%. A high share of people who hitchhike there do not even have access to PC and web. The statement is too much of a generalization. Frank Verhart, 11 dec 06

Please see: WP:BAND bogdan 19:39, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Right. You need to write more than a one-sentence article, and you need to explain, in the article, why the band meets the requirements of WP:MUSIC. NawlinWiki 19:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I've temporarily moved the article to User:Guaka/Trio Mocoto. Please work on it there. Again, the article has to assert why the band is notable. It's not enough to say "they're a samba band", or to link to the AllMusic description. If you want to have the article so badly, you should be willing to write a description of the band, and why they are important, yourself. NawlinWiki 20:04, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I still think that if someone wants to remove an article so badly, and actually removes it, should at least inform the person who started it. Guaka 20:48, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
