Guard band

A guard band is a small part of the radio spectrum in between radio bands, for the purpose of preventing interference.

Guard band also refers to the unused space between tracks on magnetic tape which prevents interference from adjacent tracks when reading from a particular track on the tape.

Guard band when used in the realm of product quality control, is the amount that minimum product specifications are increased to ensure that even with measurement uncertanty the product meets the minimum specifications with a specified level of confidence. Industry Library Citation

Additionally, in computer graphics, the guard band is a virtual area of the screen bordering the real screen to which any rendering is ignored, used to simplify clipping.
