GU Phases (.hack)

The Eight Phases in Dot hack GU are a different verision of the original Phasesfrom the dot hack games known as .hack//INFECTION,.hack//MUTATION, .hack//OUTBREAK, and .hack//QUARANTINE. These phases, referred to as Avatars, are still called by the names founded in the previous .hack// games.

[edit] Haseo, The Terror of Death
Haseo is a fictional character from .hack//G.U. He is an Adept Rouge PKK (Player Killer Killer) and the main character of .hack//G.U. Haseo is a newbie player and an outcast in real life. When he first logged into the world he was confronted by two players posing as two player helpers. Little to his knowledge they walk him through it, leading up to an area where his newfound friends turn on him and Ovan, (later described,) comes and saves him, he welcomes Haseo to the world. Haseo then dedicates his character and becomes a PKK, bent on killing every PK he encounters. He develops a reputation on The World, becoming known as "The Terror of Death". His Avatar Phase is Skeith, also referred to as "The Terror of Death". Since the first game series, its form has changed from the original design. Instead of wielding a staff (or even the original Celtic crucifix from the unedited design), it wields a scythe. Strangely, it can also fire bursts of bullets (a power not demonstrated in the first .hack).
[edit] Atoli, Mirage of Deceit
Atoli is a harvest cleric that resembles Shino, a friend of Haseo's who was PKed and sent into a coma by Tri-Edge. Her Avatar is Innis, "The Mirage of Deceit". It has changed into an humanoid form, without legs, but in each hand wields an orb of energy that becomes an enormous light sword, and has a "wheel" with spikes around. She is white, green and blue in color.
[edit] Kuhn,The Propagation
Toward the beginning of the game Kuhn is first seen using his Avatar while intercepting an AIDA that was in the process of an attempted possession of Atoli. Haseo also got his first look into the power of an avatar battle as he watched him attack, protect break, and data drain the AIDA at hand. After this battle Haseo confronts Kuhn with questions on what he had just witnessed, leaving Kuhn no other choice then to invite him to Raven's @Home.
Magus has changed significantly since his debut in .hack//Infection. Magus now has a more humanoid figure, but still retains a long tail with leaf like protrusions. Some of his abilities seem unchanged, such as his strategy of dropping leaf bombs around his target. Kuhn also reveals a hidden ability of Magus called "Propagation", which according to Pi will propagate all kinds of data. While vague, this may mean that Magus can easily withstand Data Drain. Kuhn seems rather unscathed by Data Drain, in contrast to Pi, who is on the brink of losing consciousness after Tarvos' battle with Skeith.

[edit] Saku and Bo,The Machinator
Saku and Bo are twins, brother and sister, who know Haseo. Bo is a little boy who is shy and very nice, while Saku is his twin sister who's infatuated with Endrance. She;s rude and outgoing. Their Avatar is Gorre. A double face phase who in G.U. looks like little flower nymphs.
[edit] Endrance, The Temptress
Endrance, the champion of the arena, uses a thin sword weapon. In reality, he is quite weak, but uses his Avatar to win most challenges in the arena. His avatar is Macha and appears to be cat-like with a rose 'skirt'. His avatar is summoned by his cat, Mia.
[edit] Pi, The Avenger
The first of the phases that Haseo encounters. Due to Pi's infection of an AIDA, she loses control of her Avatar which Haseo attempts to tame.
Tarvos retains only little of it's iconography from it's first form in .hack//Infection. Originally, Tarvos was depicted as a snake-like creature skewered upon a nail. Tarvos appears in G.U. as a humanoid figure with wing-like appendages protruding from the head (similar to Pi's hair). These appendages can shield Tarvos from harm (one particular tactic used during the Protect Break phase of the fight). However, the nail manifests as a staff impaling Tarvos through the abdomen. When Tarvos uses a Data Drain, it will fire from this nail. Tarvos generally attacks by launching needle-like missiles at the target.
