Gros Islet Quarter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gros Islet is the newest town in Saint Lucia, having been recently promoted from a village to a town.
It is the location of the Beausejour Stadium Test cricket ground.
It lies north of Castries and features the Friday Night Street Party which is a major tourist attraction. The Friday Night Street Party is also known as the Jump-up. Several blocks of the area are informally cordoned off with the emergence of barbecue food stands and large iceboxes filled with local beers and refreshments. Speakers are set up throughout and it all culminates into a small center where locals and tourists alike dance to the sounds of calypso, zouk, reggae and R&B.
