[edit] History
Founded in Seattle on August 23, 2003 by Tim Quigley, Groovera was originally known as "OverXposure.FM" and featured a single web radio stream called FrostByte Groove Lounge. OverXposure.FM underwent brand transition in September 2006 and became Groovera (pronounced "groov-AIR-ah"), a fanciful word combining the words "groove" and the Latin word "vera" meaning "true" or "pure". As part of the brand transition, the FrostByte Groove Lounge name was retired and the channel rotation divided into the currently existing channels Jet City Lounge and Low Mercury. The foundations of Ambient Popsicle and forthcoming channel Jazz ala Mode were extracted from the FrostByte Groove Lounge rotation in April 2004.
[edit] Groovera music channels
Groovera currently features three distinct chillout-only music channels to appeal to the different, however popular interpretations of what "chillout" music is: Jet City Lounge, Ambient Popsicle, and Low Mercury. Five forthcoming channels have been in incubation since April 2004. The following are the current channel line-up descriptions according to the Groovera website:
- Jet City Lounge: A fine mix of chilled instrumental future lounge, downtempo, nu-jazz, groove jazz, and brokenbeat, with intermittent vocals. This is the latest evolution of our original, award-winning channel previously known as FrostByte Groove Lounge.
- Ambient Popsicle: An aficionado's mix of chilled adult alternative pop, future lounge, vocal downtempo, nu-jazz, ambient pop, trip-hop, neo-soul, synth pop, deep house, and a few surprise classics.
- Low Mercury: A deeply-chilled mix of instrumental downtempo, chill-out, ambient dub, ambient techno, nu-jazz, and IDM, featuring the occasional select vocal track. Formerly the evening rotation of our original, award-winning format FrostByte Groove Lounge.
