Guitar-based disco/metal crossover band from Southport (Liverpool) UK, formed in 2002 but not 'fully active' until 2005. Comprises of members Roger Damen (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Tom Donnelly (bass guitar) and Jack Ellis (vocals, guitar).
[[Biography]]
The band's history spans from June 2005 when guitarist Roger Damen and Tom Donnelly took it upon himself to reform quintet Twenty Two Dropout, ex-vocalist Tom Batho was not included in this line-up, and was to be replaced at the bands comeback gig at the annual BOTB by 13th Conspiracy axeman Thom Forshaw. Nothing progressed with Thom Forshaw who later quit, also drummer, Alun Matthews was dropped from the line-up and five became three - New songs were written with the help of Acoustica Beatcraft (for Drum Programming) and the drum machine remains to this day a vital part of the band's sound.
Drawing influences from every possible music genre, Grey is the Monument pride themselves on at least trying to create music that is technical yet listenable, heavy yet melodic and combines metal with disco, a pop punk heartbeat, and everything in between.
Guitarists Roger Damen and Jack Ellis cross axes to provide tight harmonies, sonic soundscapes and needless guitar wankery (with echoes of the eighties) that manages to at least withhold one iota of dignity, whilst bassist Tom Donnelly brings solid, punchy yet danceable rhythms to the fore.
With a quota of fresh material in the satchel and a lot more in progress, GITM are starting to take shape: every song is an advance on the last, and boundaries are crossed each time. From the disco stomp of Bloodbath on the Dancefloor to the pop-punk infused riffs of Speak, Dictator, Speak, right through to the eighties-tinged dance-metal blast of Tetris, Grey is the Monument are looking to take their energetic live performance across the UK by booking as many gigs as their disco boots can handle!
