The Grey of Macha was the more favored of the Irish hero Cuchulainn's two horses, the other being the Black Sainglain. The Grey was the king of the horses of Ireland. He stayed by Cuchulainn to protect him after Cuchulainn was hit by Lugaid's spear in the battle of the Tain Bo Cuailnge. He later died of another spear thrown by Lugaid.
